GCSE Maths Revision Guide

Simultaneous Equations

Solve two equations at the same time using elimination or substitution. This free GCSE Maths module combines short explanations, worked examples, flashcard-style recall, and timed practice so students can revise the topic without creating an account.

Foundation Skills

Elimination Method

Multiply one or both equations so one variable has the same coefficient. Then Add or Subtract to get rid of it.

Substitution Method

Rearrange one equation for one variable (e.g. x = ...) and "plug it" into the other.

Example: y = 2x, 3x + y = 10 -> 3x + 2x = 10

Higher Skills

Linear and Quadratic

Always use substitution. Express the linear as x = ... or y = ..., then substitute into the quadratic.

Graphical Solutions

The solution is the coordinates (x, y) where the two lines INTERSECT.
