Area of 2D Shapes
Calculate areas of triangles, rectangles, trapeziums, circles, and more. This free GCSE Maths module combines short explanations, worked examples, flashcard-style recall, and timed practice so students can revise the topic without creating an account.
Foundation Skills
Rectangle
Formula: A = length × width
Example: 8 × 5 = 40 cm²
Triangle
Half of base times height.
Formula: A = ½ × base × height
Example: b=10, h=6: A = ½ × 10 × 6 = 30 cm²
Trapezium
Average of parallel sides times height.
Formula: A = ½(a + b) × h
Example: a=4, b=8, h=5: A = ½(12) × 5 = 30 cm²
Higher Skills
Circle
Formula: A = πr²
Example: r = 5: A = π × 25 = 78.5 cm² (1 d.p.)
Sector
A fraction of the full circle area.
Formula: A = (θ/360) × πr²
Example: r=6, θ=90°: A = (90/360) × π × 36 = 28.3 cm²
